2nd set of bug fixes released

I’ve released a further update to the site with a package of 8 bug fixes. Of these the most significant is to the Garmin Upload facility, which was previously being a bit too fussy over the data it was looking for and just spitting an error at you if it didn’t like what it saw. There are still a few issues over logging multiple rides at once but this is going to require a bit of thought on my part as to how to work it into the interface. At the moment of course the form allows you log just one ride at the time, whereas you may have a Garmin file consisting of many rides.
I should also warn that there may be an issue relating to very large files if you try to upload those. I thought for amusement I’d try and pass in 8MB’s worth of David Millar’s Tour de France stage 6 data, and sadly the parser just gave up.
Finally, and continuing the Tour de France theme, things will be a bit quiet on here for a couple of weeks as I’m heading off to the Alps this coming Friday - camping, cycling and watching the race. Hopefully the British contingent will be able to continue their excellent showing so far. Apologies in advance to anyone who's feedback appears to fall on deaf ears until I get back.

Hi Nick, no that's very helpful indeed. When an error happens it logs what the problem is and where it's happening, but it's very useful to find out exactly what you've done to get there. In this case it's failing due to a rule that's in there to prevent duplicate routes getting saved, so I suspect I've got the logic a bit wrong and it's attempting to save the route twice. Unfortunately I won't be able to look at it properly until I get back from holiday but thanks again for letting me know and persevering with trying the new functionality. Just out of interest were you entering a brand new route or selecting the name of a route you've already got saved?

I uploaded it direct from my garmin, but the name of the route was Sherwood Pines, which i have used on many occasions. I couldn't save it in the "normal" My Cycling either! Just about to try again!! Cheers, Nick

Pete, i just tried to re load it on the main My Cycling and it still wont have it. I tried also just naming it something different and that did nt work either! Hmmm!

Hi Nick, I think there's actually two separate bugs happening there. The first one is that it's not checking for an existing route of the same name when the route gets generated from a Garmin file. I'll tweak it so that if there's a route of the same name it gives you the option to overwrite the existing route from the Garmin file, or choose a different name.
The problem you're getting from the main website is something I still need to look into properly but it looks like it's trying to create a new entry for the same date, when it should be reusing the one that has already been created.

Both of these bugs should now be resolved, although with the duplicate route issue I've yet to implement it so that it prompts for whether to overwrite or not. For the time being therefore, if you enter a route name that already exists it will throw a validation error so you'll need to put in a new name.

Cheers Pete, most of the stuff seems ok now as far as i can see. Thanks again, Nick

Hi Pete, sorry to tell you i have been unable to save my rides again! This was different in that i uploaded the ride from my Garmin, added the extra bits (Wind etc) but then twice it was unable to save the info just telling there was an error. Hope you dont mind me telling you, but just trying to help with the initial problems. Thanks mate, Nick
